Nature’s Gaze

I have always felt a strong connection with nature.  It grounds me and brings me back to a place of peace in my life.  I feel compelled to capture these fleeting moments in time.  My purpose is to bring them to light and show off the beauty that we oftentimes don’t have the time to appreciate.  These are ordinary encounters with extraordinary beauties that take patience to produce.

The magic happens for me when I see iridescence in a flower’s petal, a scalloped-edge leaf, the seemingly painted stripes in the fur of an animal or the delicate wisps of a bird’s feather.  The attention the animals give back is amazing, such as the kitten-like pause from wild and dangerous animal.  I then focus on composition and natural lighting.  All subjects were taken in their habitats with no use of props or additional lighting.

My focus is wildlife, botanicals, and landscapes.  While striving for perfection in a piece, I do not alter it to an unrealistic state.  I want to be true to the moment and present it in a way that best reflects what I experienced.  I strive for realism with techniques that bring small things into focus for better observation.  Studying, learning, seeking adventure and discovery are the things that motivate me in this quest for beautiful encounters.

The canvases are photographs reproduced on stretched canvas frames.  Each is coated for protection and longevity.  The framed photographs are Giclée prints on photo paper.
